You have been asked to contribute three potential story ideas for a new game in production at a game design studio. Using what you’ve learned in the unit about story ideas and mash-ups, you’re going to propose three potential game ideas and create a basic outline of how your favorite game story of the three might pan out.

Step 1: Develop Three Ideas
First, come up with three different ideas. Here are the steps you will go through in your ideation. These considerations will help you describe your game:

Choose an existing genre of game and story, such as action or horror, and potentially mix it with other genres like comedy or drama.
Consider the environment and perspective (game perspective, not storytelling perspective).
Consider how your character will interact in the story and describe their conflict.
Describe each of your three game ideas in a document. Your description can be two to three sentences long, including the information you just considered about genre, environment, and character.

Here’s an example:

My idea is for a gothic steampunk drama set in the old west. The main character must hide the fact that her husband has been transformed into a werewolf, and they must work together to find an antidote. This game will be played from a third-person perspective so the player can see both characters at once.
Step 2: Freytag’s Pyramid
Once you’ve come up with three different ideas, choose your favorite idea to expand upon.

For each step of Freytag’s Pyramid, describe a potential event or situation and how the player will experience this event in-game. You should describe each potential event in two to three sentences:

Establishing Information
Inciting Incident
Rising Action
Climax
Falling Action
Resolution
Denouement
Step 3: Submit your Work
Submit your document, including the three story ideas and your Freytag’s Pyramid breakdown.
