8.5 ÷ 1.25 = 6.8
and only 6 cuts along the width

so you can make 6x8 or 48 complete squares.

notice that by taking the total area of
11 x 8.5 or 93.5 square units
and dividing that by the area of each square of
1.25x1.25 or 1.5625 square inches, we would get
59.84 , which of course is physically not possible.
