y = f(x) = 5 - x - 3x^2

Find the y-intercepts, x-intercepts, and the vertex

1 answer

y = -3^2 - x + 5
y - int = 5
x- int = -1.46 and 1.14 (using the quadratic equation of x = (-b+/- sqrt(b^2 - 4ac))/2a

Vertex is derived from the sum of the x-intercepts divided by 2.
-1.46 + 1.14 = -0.16

Vertex input for x = -0.16

Sub back into equation to find the y- input of the vertex

y= -3(-0.16)^2 - (-o.16) +5
y = 1.12

Therefore the vertex is (-0.16,1.12)
