A. hearing and touching
Weihenmayer uses the sense of hearing to describe the sound of the Sherpa prayer flags flapping in the wind and the "infinite sound of space around me." He also uses the sense of touch when he reaches down and touches the snow through his gloved hand.
Writers describe the world around them in the way they best understand it. In this passage, think about how Erik Weihenmayer, who is blind, describes his experience on the top of Mount Everest.
Excerpt from Touch the Top of the World
By Erik Weihenmayer
So I suspended my nerves for a moment, reached down and touched the snow through my gloved hand, listened to the Sherpa prayer flags flapping in the wind, and heard the infinite sound of space around me, as on my first rock climb. After I had gone blind almost twenty years ago, I would have been proud to find the bathroom, so I said a quick prayer and thanked God for giving me so much. Then it was time to go down.
