Write an equation for a parabola with vertex at

(-4 , 3) and focus at ( -4, -2)?
I have this....
(X+4)^2=20(y-3)

1 answer

Given: V(-4,3), F(-4,-2).

VF = 1/4a = -2 -3 = -5
4a = -1/5
a = -1/20.

Vertex Form: Y = a(x-h)^2 + k
Y = (-1/20)(x+4)^2 + 3.

Amber, your Eq is the same as mine
except it is in a form that I saw in a very old textbook. Are you using an
older textbook?

Check: The "20" should be negative.
