This research proposal aims to assess the rate of adoption of agroforestry practice in Huye District, with a specific focus on Mukura Sector. Agroforestry is an increasingly recognized approach to sustainable land management that combines the cultivation of trees with agricultural crops or livestock. It presents numerous environmental and socio-economic benefits, including soil conservation, biodiversity conservation, improved water management, and enhanced food production.
The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing the adoption of agroforestry practices in Mukura Sector and assess the current rate of adoption among farmers. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods.
To achieve this objective, the study will first conduct a literature review to understand the existing knowledge and research gaps in agroforestry adoption. This review will inform the development of a conceptual framework that will guide the research process.
The research will then employ a survey questionnaire to collect quantitative data from a representative sample of farmers in Mukura Sector. The questionnaire will assess farmers' knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions towards agroforestry, as well as their socioeconomic characteristics. The collected data will be analyzed using statistical techniques to determine the rate of adoption of agroforestry practices in the sector.
In addition to the survey, the study will conduct in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with selected farmers and key stakeholders, including agricultural extension officers and local leaders. These qualitative data collection methods will provide insights into the barriers and facilitators of agroforestry adoption, as well as identify any specific challenges faced by farmers in Mukura Sector.
In conclusion, this research proposal aims to assess the rate of adoption of agroforestry practices in Mukura Sector, Huye District. The findings of this study will contribute to the existing literature on agroforestry adoption and provide valuable insights for policymakers, extension officers, and other relevant stakeholders involved in promoting sustainable land management practices.
