One sunny Saturday, my friends and I were hanging out in my backyard, feeling super excited about going to the beach. We had packed snacks and beach toys, ready for a fun day. As we chatted and laughed, I noticed something strange. My friend Mia’s stuff was all over the ground—her towel, flip-flops, and even her favorite sunhat.

“Hey, where’s Mia?” I asked, looking around. Everyone shrugged. We figured she must have gone to grab something from her house. But after waiting a while, she still didn’t come back.

“Should we call her?” Jake suggested, pulling out his phone. We all agreed, but when we tried calling her, there was no answer. I started to feel a bit worried.

“Let’s check the park nearby,” I said. We all hopped on our bikes and rode over to the park where we often played. We searched every corner but didn’t see her anywhere. I kept glancing at my watch. Time was ticking, and we hadn’t found her yet.

I decided it was time to get serious. “I think we should call the cops,” I told my friends. They looked shocked, but they nodded. So, I called 911 and explained what was happening. The operator said they would send someone out right away.

Soon, a police car rolled up, lights flashing. Two officers got out and started asking us questions about Mia. We pointed out her things in my yard and told them everything we knew. They took notes and searched the area. It didn’t take long for more cops to show up, and before we knew it, our backyard felt like a real crime scene!

They taped off the area and started asking more questions. I felt scared and worried. What if something bad happened to Mia? I just wanted her to come back and join us for our beach day.

Finally, after what felt like forever, one of the officers found Mia hiding in a garden a few blocks away. She was playing hide-and-seek with her little brother and lost track of time! We all sighed in relief, and I was so happy to see her.

The officers laughed a little, too, and helped us understand that it was okay to be worried about a friend when they’re missing. In the end, we all went to the beach together, and even though it started out scary, it turned into a day we’d never forget.
