How The Grump Lost His Nuts

In a village where laughter and joy would abound,
Lived a grumpy old fellow, with hardly a sound.
He scowled at the children, frowned at the birds,
And muttered aloud in a jumble of words.

His name was old Grump, with a beard like a cloud,
He’d shuffle on by, never part of the crowd.
He’d glare at the sun, and the moon up above,
For he’d traded his heart for a box full of grudge.

One day as he wandered, he tripped on a stone,
And fell with a thud, making quite a loud moan.
But as he lay there, in a tangle of dirt,
He noticed a glimmer of something that hurt.

Near a big ancient tree, with its branches so wide,
Sat a squirrel with treasure, all hidden inside.
With acorns and goodies, a fine little stash,
The grump watched in silence, then made a bold dash.

“Hey there, you rascal! What’s all of this junk?
You’ve no time to gather; you’re nothing but punk!”
The squirrel just squeaked and held tight to his nuts,
While Grump flailed his arms, and he made quite a fuss.

“Those nuts aren’t for you! They’re not yours to take!”
The squirrel replied with a twinkle awake.
“They’re for winter, you see, when the cold winds will bite,
You should learn to enjoy, not just groan and incite.”

Grump paused for a moment, then glared with disdain,
“What’s joy worth to me? It just drives me insane!”
The squirrel, undeterred, just chuckled and said,
“Then watch as I bury; you’ve nothing to dread.”

With nimble little paws, he dug a small hole,
And buried each nut with a flick of his soul.
“Now that’s how you live!” the cheerful creature grinned,
“Just share it a little, and joy will begin!”

Old Grump felt a stir, deep down in his chest,
And wondered for once if perhaps life was best,
With laughter and play, sharing moments they’ve got,
Not just hoarding nutty complaints like a lot.

So Grump learned a lesson he’d never forgot,
That joy isn’t found in the things that we’ve sought.
He looked at the squirrel, then offered a smile,
“Let’s gather some nuts, and enjoy for a while!”

From that day forward, the grump was no more,
He laughed with the children and danced on the shore.
So if you feel grumpy or stuck in a rut,
Just remember old Grump and the squirrel with nuts!
