Dear Diary,

Today was just like any other day in this divided city. The tension and unease in the air are palpable, as if the city itself is holding its breath, waiting for the next inevitable clash.

As I walked to work this morning, I couldn’t help but notice the stark contrast between the two sides of the city. On one side, the streets were bustling with activity and the buildings were well-maintained. On the other side, the streets were empty and the buildings were crumbling, a stark reminder of the division that runs deep in this city.

At work, I tried to focus on my tasks, but the constant fear of violence seeping into our side of the city made it difficult to concentrate. The constant sound of sirens in the distance served as a grim reminder of the unrest that plagues this city.

During my lunch break, I met with a friend who lives on the other side of the city. It’s always a risky move, crossing the invisible barrier that separates us, but I needed to check in on her. As we sat in the cafe, we talked about our hopes for a future where we can live in harmony, but deep down, we both knew that the reality of our situation is far from that.

As the day came to a close, I made my way back home, feeling the weight of the division pressing down on me. I closed the door behind me, thankful to be in the safety of my own home, but knowing that tomorrow will bring another day of living in this divided city.

I can only hope for a day when the walls that separate us come down, and we can truly be one city again.

Yours truly,
Gerta
