Would this phrase the quotient of 2 and the sum of a number and 5 be expressed as (4 / 2) + (x + 5)?
Any help would be appreciated.

where did you get the 4?

the quotient of a and b is a/b. So, you have

the quotient of 2
and
the sum of a number and 5

2/(x+5)
