Why was Clinton impeached?
1 answer
President Bill Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives in 1998 on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. The charges stemmed from a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by former Arkansas state employee Paula Jones, in which Clinton was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky and then lying about it under oath. The Senate ultimately acquitted Clinton of both charges, allowing him to remain in office for the remainder of his term.
