Jesus' disciples in any era should accept persecution when it comes because Jesus Himself accepted persecution and taught His disciples to do the same. In Matthew 10:24-25, Jesus said, “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master.” Jesus also taught His disciples to follow His example of suffering and humility in 1 Peter 2:21, “For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.” By accepting persecution, Jesus' disciples can demonstrate their faith and obedience to Him.
