why is platinum more expensive than gold??

To be honest about it, I don't know; however, I would look at how much trouble it is to find the ores as well as how much expense is involved in separate the metal from the ores. I expect the answer liew in that although one must keep in mind that the prices of precious metals is controlled somewhat by artificially limiting the supply.
