Why do you need to take a business course to become web designer/developer? I know it's a skill but what does it do?

Web designers work in business. Those who are employed by companies need to understand the business end in order to produce designs that benefit both the customer and the company. Many designers on contract or as free-lancers. Since, essentially they are running their own business, it's vital that they understand business principles.
