Why do the balloon and the wall attract to each other after they have been rubbed together?

When the balloon is rubbed against the wall, electrons are transferred from the wall to the balloon, giving the balloon a negative charge and the wall a positive charge. Opposite charges attract, so the negatively charged balloon is attracted to the positively charged wall. This phenomenon is known as static electricity.
