Why do gas giants have more moons than the terrestrial planets?

Question

The gas giants have more moons than the terrestrial planets because of their great masses which result in stronger gravitational fields.

Any other info would be appreciated, please tell me if this is correct, thanks

yes, and that the gas surrounding the giants slowed down the nearby masses until they fell into orbit.

Also that the gas giants are much further away from the sun. If you look at other solar systems, some gas giants are close to their star and don't have many moons.
