1 answer
Nazi Germany signed a non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union, known as the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, in order to avoid a two-front war. By securing a non-aggression pact with the Soviets, Germany was able to focus their military efforts on conquering Western Europe without having to worry about fighting on the Eastern Front as well. This allowed Germany to expand their territory and influence more easily before eventually turning on the Soviet Union in 1941.
