Why did martin luther king responde the way he did to poeple

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., exemplified his Christian faith by being a man of peace. He followed the Old Testament teaching of the Golden Rule -- "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." He also embraced the words of Jesus, "Love one another."

Dr. King also followed the example of the great Indian leader, Mohandas K. Gandhi, a Hindu. Mr. Gandhi helped his people achieve independence from Britain by using confrontational, but non-violent, tactics. When asked why he didn't seek revenge for the horrible persecution of his countrymen, Gandhi replied, "An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind."
If you want a nonreligious answer, you could also use Henry David Thoreau's essay "Civil Disobedience" as a historical example.
Excellent idea, Brandon.
