Jesus chose disciples for several key reasons, among which the most significant is to prepare them to continue his ministry. His selection of disciples was primarily aimed at training and equipping them to spread his teachings and carry on the work of evangelism after his ascension. This includes preaching the message of the Gospel, healing, and serving communities, thereby establishing the foundation of the Christian church.
While they also provided companionship and support during his ministry, the overarching purpose was to ensure that his teachings and mission would endure and flourish beyond his earthly existence. The disciples were called to learn from him, witness his miracles, and eventually become leaders in their own right, tasked with the continuation of his work.
