White House pets become almost as well known as their owners,
what type o verb is become?

Do you think it's action or linking?
Action because there is not any other verbs with it.
I looked it up and it says become is ALWAYS a linking verb. It seems confusing because you would expect a linking verb to link 2 verbs as in:
has become, had jumped, and became is alone. It is not has become.
has become, had jumped, and became is alone. It is not has become.
Ahh! Linking verbs link the subject with the predicate adjective or predicate nominative. Consider these examples.
She is a teacher.
He was always nice.
Mr. Jones became a principal.
As you can see, the word following the linking verb means the same as or describes the subject.
