Both A and B are correct. I don't see any difference in those uses of "fray."
You're probably right, though. A may be the answer that is considered right.
Which of these expresses the meaning of fray as fight?

C. She frayed the edge of the cord, hoping it wouldn't catch on fire

I think it's either A or B, but I think A is better, right?
