Yike! Does your text recommend handsaws in a preschool?
yes. This is what my book recommends. An effective woodworking center includes the following: real tools ( you might choose smaller- size options). Appropriate tools for preschool and elementary children include hammers, pliers, vise, grips, metal clamps, planes, levels, handsaws (crosscut, keyhole or compass) etc.
planes? Those babies are sharp, and easy to slice your hand with
OK. And when my mother taught kindergarten many years ago, the only scissors in the classroom were small blunt-ended dull scissors.
Frankly, I don't see any reason to introduce preschoolers to these tools. There's plenty of time later. I'd at least wait until they could read and write.
