Before becoming a naturalized citizen of the United States, a person must:
- Pass a test demonstrating knowledge of U.S. history and civics
- Speak, read, and write basic English
The other options listed (holding a job with a U.S. company, residing in the U.S. for at least seven years, and marrying a citizen) are not requirements for naturalization. The standard residency requirement is usually five years (or three years if married to a U.S. citizen).
