Hypothesis is the core of the Scientific Method. After studying the problem in the literature, one comes up with a theoretical method in which to solve the problem. Some refer to the hypothesis as an 'Educated Guess

In the experimental process, observation and data collection collection is key to finding a repeatable solution to ones problem. D-choice sounds like the most correct answer because, proof is not always required. What is required is a systematic, scientific approach to formulating a method (theoretically) to solve the problem and apply an experimental process to testing the hypothesis. The flow of data may or may not prove the hypothesis is right, but if a systematic repeatable process is developed leading to the same conclusion each test, then that's is all that is expected. Success is always great, but scientist must always be ready for failure and the need to start over in the process.
