I think you are right that OMe is a ortho/para directing group.
I think the CO2R is an ester and esters are meta directing.
Which of the following is an ortho directing group?
a) CN
b) CO2Me
c) OMe
d) NO2
I have drawn most of them out, CN has no delocalised electrons to contribute e- density hence EWG.
For NO2 inductive effect is strong and hence is a EWG and meta directing.
OME EDG -> Ortho im thinking
However, i cant figure out the structure of CO2Me is it a carboxylic acid looking however the H is switch for Methly? Does this mean it cancels out the negative of a CO2- group which is ortho and so this is why it is meta?
