A. Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were a series of punitive laws passed by the British Parliament in 1774 in response to the Boston Tea Party, an event characterized by violence and property destruction. The Boston Tea Party involved American colonists, frustrated by British taxation without representation, dumping tea into Boston Harbor as a protest against the Tea Act. In retaliation, the Intolerable Acts aimed to suppress unrest, which included closing Boston Harbor until the dumped tea was paid for, effectively punishing the colonists and escalating tensions that ultimately led to the American Revolution.
