Which function do the alveoli perform?
1 answer
The alveoli perform the function of gas exchange in the respiratory system. They are tiny air sacs located at the end of the bronchioles in the lungs. Oxygen is taken in from the air and diffuses into the bloodstream, while carbon dioxide, a waste product, diffuses from the bloodstream into the alveoli to be exhaled. This gas exchange allows the body to receive oxygen and eliminate carbon dioxide.
