The segmental arteries are branches of the renal arteries that supply the kidneys. Each renal artery typically divides into five segmental arteries, corresponding to the different functional regions of the kidney. These segmental arteries are:
- Anterior superior segmental artery (also known as the apical segmental artery)
- Anterior inferior segmental artery
- Inferior segmental artery
- Posterior segmental artery
- Lateral segmental artery (sometimes referred to as a branch of the posterior segmental artery)
These segmental arteries further branch into interlobar arteries, arcuate arteries, and cortical radiate arteries, providing blood supply to the renal tissues. Each segmental artery supplies a specific segment of the kidney, allowing for localized blood flow and function.
