When the Earth, Sun, and Moon are perfectly aligned with the Earth in the middle, a lunar eclipse occurs. During a lunar eclipse, the Earth blocks sunlight from directly reaching the Moon, which causes the Moon to appear darker or take on a reddish hue, often referred to as a "blood moon."
In contrast, when the order is Sun, Earth, and Moon, and the Moon is between the Earth and Sun, a solar eclipse occurs.
