when dealing with circuits, and you say

"the voltage across the battery" and "a current through the battery"

what do the words across and through mean.

The voltage is like pressure in a pipe, you measure pressure difference between two points along a pipe.

Current is like the water flowing through a pipe. A certain amount of water passes past a point per second.

In order to get the water to flow you need the pressure difference.

Any help?
i know what voltage and current mean. I want to know the difference between across and through.
If the function is potential like voltage across means measuring from one point to another by any old route.
Through means how much is passing along a path.
