The first letter of each line spells, in this case, speed.
SPEED
Sometimes on a lonely road we go and
Pass people we do not know.
Every time that happens and
Even though we don't try,
Death follows each of us by and by.
I hope that
1. you can excuse the morbid theme but that just seemed to fit and
2. the grammarians on this site don't correct that to bye and bye. There is some evidence on the web for either. In the end I thought "the sweet by and by" shoved me off the fence and in that direction. Good luck in your studies.
