A proportional fraction is a fraction that maintains a consistent ratio between its numerator and denominator. For example, the fractions \( \frac{2}{3} \) and \( \frac{4}{6} \) are proportional because they both represent the same ratio (\( \frac{2}{3} = \frac{4}{6} \)).
In general, any fraction of the form \( \frac{a}{b} \) and \( \frac{ka}{kb} \), where \( k \) is a non-zero constant, will be proportional. For instance, \( \frac{1}{2} \) and \( \frac{3}{6} \) are also proportional fractions.
