In peacetime, a country doesn't need as many soldiers, sailors and marines as it does in wartime. Thus more people are employed to do the actual fighting.

I understand that profit means gaining money from or derive a benefit from. So would it be something like this.

Companies that sell goods to the government usually make good profits too. Since the item that is being produced is in high demand and more are being produced, the beneficary outcome would be those manufacturers recieving a reasonable payback.
