My initial impression of Josh at the beginning of the book was that he was a typical teenage boy - carefree, laidback, and a bit of a troublemaker. He seemed to have a bit of a rebellious streak and didn't take his studies very seriously. However, it was also clear that he had a good heart, as evidenced by his interactions with his younger sister and the way he looked out for her. Overall, I found him to be a likable character with a lot of potential for growth and development throughout the story.
