The Vietnam War's outcome was that the communist North of Vietnam achieved victory over the South. The North unified the country under communist rule in 1975, after years of fighting against the U.S.-backed South Vietnamese government. The war ended with the fall of Saigon, the capital of South Vietnam, to the North Vietnamese army.
