What was the original purpose of this website?

Who founded it?
I ask these questions because people like @Ms. Sue, @oobleck, @Writeacher, and @Sliverstream are triggered about people using this website to get direct (sometimes even indirect) answers; when they aren't, they generally don't help much and post googled definitions and links. No hate towards anyone, but this website is a battleground between the aforementioned moderators and students.

This is not the place for answer moochers, for certain. There are plenty of pay sites which do that. We are teachers here, we teach. Hopefully, students learn to learn by themselves. If it does not suit your need, dont use it.
I can answer most of your questions but I suspect this will be just one of a long stream of responses by those you have have all but maligned. First, this web site was started by a young man who saw a need to have a vehicle that could be used to help students. To date it has functioned very well but some students, including you, apparently don't understand how these things work. The emphasis is on HELPING while you must thing our job is to DO. Links are a way of giving you the information so that you can read, get the information you need, and learn about the subject and answer questions about a particular question/subject. Our job is NOT to GIVE you the answers. The people you mention sometimes are taken to task BECAUSE they refuse to help those who try to cheat by posting tests/ answers to tests/ etc. No one learns anything by cheating and we try not to help those who want to use this web site for cheating. Students fuss because we provide links instead of direct answers. There is no battleground here if you follow the rules. The tutors here are professional, many are retired teachers and we really want to help the students learn but learn is the secreat word. I hope this helps you understand the purpose of this website. We welcome your quetions and I hope you profit from its use.
They post links that can help you because they have a life and not spend 24 hours answering questions although your lucky this website doesn't ask you to sign up and stuff.
