The process for updating the US Constitution is outlined in Article V of the Constitution itself.
There are two ways in which the Constitution can be amended:
1. Congress may propose amendments with a two-thirds majority vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
2. A national convention called by two-thirds of state legislatures can propose amendments.
In both cases, proposed amendments must then be ratified by three-fourths of state legislatures or by conventions in three-fourths of the states.
This process ensures that any changes to the Constitution require broad support and consensus among the states and the people.
