Water is a chemical compound consisting of two Hydrogen atoms bound to an Oxygen atom, H2O.
The atoms are held together by electrical forces which can be broken by an electric field. Thus it is possible to split water into Hydrogen gas (H2) and Oxygen gas (O2) with an electric field.
