So the area of a triangle is the following:
A =( B x H) / 2
Let's plug in what we've been told in the question
24 = (3B x B) / 2
48 = 3B x B
48 = 3B^2
16 = B^2
+ or - 4 = B
I would go with option C because if you plug in 4 in or -4 for B into the area of a triangle equation, you end up with + 24 in^2.
What is the value of b in the triangle shown below?
The triangle they are showing is a right triangle...the length is 3b and the width is b...on the inside of the triangle it says 24in^2.
A.–4 in
B.4 in
C.±4 in
D.no solution
Please help I do not know how to do these...if I had to guess it would be B or C...thanks

Thank you...I understand now
It was wrong - it was B..thanks anyhow
Now you've got me stumped. I don't understand why it would be option B :/
Don't listen to Lena, this is the third que/answer she's gotten wrong lol
@Lena It is B because you can't have -4 inches on a triangle.
1 = c
2 = d
3 = b
4 = c
5 = b
2 = d
3 = b
4 = c
5 = b
