Use this format to write powers:
5^3 to mean 5 raised to the third, etc
5*9 to mean 5 times 9
–3 • (7 + (–3)^2) ÷ 3
follow the order of operations:
= –3 • (7 + 9) ÷ 3
= -3*16 ÷ 3
= -48 ÷ 3
= -16
