What is the pH (to three figures) of a 0.1 M solution of sodium acetate given that the acid dissociation constant (Ka) of acetic acid is 1.8E-5? Hint:

I keep getting 2.87 but its wrong.

You should know 2.87 can't be right since solutions of sodium acetate are slightly basic.
Write the hydrolysis equation for acetate ion, plug in Kb for acetate (Kw/Ka) and solve for OH^-, convert to pOH, then to pH. I get something like 9 (actually a little less than 9).
