Equation- is a mathematical statement, in symbols, that two things are exactly the same (or equivalent). Equations are written with an equal sign. Yes, you can solve for a variable in an equation.
Example: 2+3+5=10
Expression- is a symbol or combination of symbols that represents a quantity or a relationship between quantities. No, you cannot solve for a variable in an expression. Still, you can simplify it.
Example: 3 X n +10 =

I would put a variable in your first example
e.g. 2x + 3 = 13
and in the second example, don't use a big X to show multiplication
put it this way:
3(n+10)
