well, you know that the additive inverse is what you have to add to reach the additive identity. So, what is the identity?
The additive identity is the number which you can add without changing anything. zero
So, for any number N, its additive inverse is -N
That is, N + (-N) = 0
So, what do you have to add to 38 to get a sum of zero?

BTW, absolute value is better written as |-38| not !-38!
