Skylab is a space station. It was the United States' first space station, launched in May 1973, and it was used primarily for scientific research and experiments during its operational period. Skylab allowed astronauts to conduct a variety of experiments in microgravity, and it hosted three crewed missions from 1973 to 1974 before re-entering Earth's atmosphere in 1979.
