Plants produce oxygen during photosynthesis. Additionally, they convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose (a type of sugar) using light energy from the sun. The overall simplified chemical equation for photosynthesis is:
\[ 6 , \text{CO}_2 + 6 , \text{H}_2\text{O} + \text{light energy} \rightarrow \text{C}6\text{H}{12}\text{O}_6 + 6 , \text{O}_2 \]
This means that for every six molecules of carbon dioxide and six molecules of water, one molecule of glucose and six molecules of oxygen are produced.
