what is answer to equation

3x+1=-5x+65?
I came up with x=33, but don't think I did it right.

2 answers

8 x = 64
x = 8
3x+1=-5x+65

3x + 5x + 1 = -5x + 5x + 65
8x + 1 - 1 = 65 - 1
8x = 64
x = 8

Let's prove that by substitution.

3(8) + 1 = -5(8) + 65
25 = -40 + 65
25 = 25

Yep. x = 8
