What is a negative thing having a huge country (land territory)?

It would make it harder to defend due to large area and little defence.

Is my answer correct? Are there any other negatives?

Your answer is pretty much correct. You can read about how different ancient Egyptian pharoahs, Greek commanders, and Roman generals and emperors went about controlling their vast lands at different times. Usually, each empire began breaking down when there was less interest and fewer soldiers and others representing the empire in the farthest-out territories to keep everything under control.
