What is a music conductor?

1 answer

A conductor is the person who stands in front of an orchestra, with his or her back to the orchestra, and "conducts" by waving a baton and giving other directions as to how the musicians are to play (louder, softer, slower etc.) . Sometimes, but rarely, a soloist (usually the pianist in a concerto) is the conductor.
