What is a cathode and an anode? In the formula for table salt: NaCl, which part of the compound is a cathode and which part is the anode?

There is no part of NaCl that is a cathode or anode. In an electrolysis cell of NaCl, the Na forms at the cathode (which in this case is the negative electrode) and Cl forms at the anode (which in this case is the positive electrode).
