In Idaho, there is currently no specific state law that protects sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing, or public accommodations. However, the Idaho Human Rights Act does prohibit discrimination based on certain characteristics, but sexual orientation and gender identity are not included in the list of protected categories.
There have been various efforts to introduce legislation to expand these protections, but as of my last update in October 2023, such measures have not been enacted into law. Federal protections may apply, such as those established by the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Bostock v. Clayton County (2020), which interpreted Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in employment.
